Change fatigue
It is normal to feel out of whack and weary given the strangeness of our present existence.
A couple of years ago we would never have imagined experiencing a lockdown. We had no reason to expect it nor would we have chosen it as our preferred way of being. And yet, given the circumstances we do need to accept that lockdowns are necessary, that we need to abide by the restrictions to keep us as safe as possible and no matter how difficult we might find it, it is ultimately the best option for our survival. It is a matter of life and death.
This is not a familiar way for us to live and we might resist being told what we can and can’t do. That’s a normal human response. Just because it is difficult doesn’t mean that it’s wrong. Remember that it’s ok to not be ok. We have necessarily gone into survival mode.
We all react differently and there are no prizes for feeling better than someone else. If we are to move forward and manage our reactions then we need to consciously admit how survival mode has impacted us. We need to validate what’s going on for us. And we need others to be empathic and not minimise our pain.
What change has impacted you the most?
What are your coping mechanisms?
How have you self soothed?
What is your self care plan?
Who have you connected with?
And what are you looking forward to when the restrictions are eased?
It’s business as usual for our helping profession. We are continuing in person sessions and would love to come alongside you as we deal with the mess of life. We can share our suffering and tears. We can sit in our pain and encourage one another. We can hope for a brighter tomorrow.
If you’re stuck?
