Christmas in July
What motivates us to think about Christmas in the middle of the year?
What is causing us to feel whimsical? Is it the cold weather inviting us to consider a white Christmas? Have we a craving for Turkey and duck roasted potatoes or is it that we hanker for some custard with that Christmas pudding stored in our freezer?
Is it that feeling of excitement that we yearn for? The anticipation of good will, generosity and otherness that we miss. Time to focus on celebrating one another and life as we know it or as we dream it could be?
Whatever it is we know that grumbling comes naturally to us but gratitude is something we need to work on. What are we grateful for? What difficulty have we navigated? When did we feel protected? What blessings have we experienced so far this year? What do we feel like celebrating?
Let’s stop complaining about what we don’t have, what we missed out on, what someone else did or what we have no control over and start being thankful in this present moment (not just during Thanksgiving in November). It is important to acknowledge our difficulties and our uncomfortable feelings. To process, address and reassess what we are thinking, feeling and doing. To Take responsibility for our attitude and any change that we might need to make. In other words to choose to start to change something in order to increase our good will and have healthier well being. Then we might feel better about ourselves, the way we relate to others and the way we deal with the stuff of life not just at Christmas time but all year round.
When we make positivity our priority we see things through a different lens. We can develop a more positive relationship with ourselves and with those around us. What are your biggest priorities in life? By staying focused on the positive we can pursue happiness and promote goodwill both now and as we celebrate and endure the seasons of life.
