Make Way - For Uncertainty

Humans long for security and certainty in life & in love. We want a sense of control and predicability over our lives and our well being. Yet much of what lies ahead in life is uncertain. We fret and worry, we feel stressed and anxious, and powerless over the unexpected and the unknowns in the future. While many things remain outside our control, our mindset is the key to coping with the unexpected and confidently facing the unknown.

Worrying all the time doesn’t achieve anything. It tires us out by keeping us awake at night and saps our energy by robbing us of present enjoyment and mindful engagement. It can stop us from wanting to connect with others and from others wanting to connect with us. Unless we consciously choose to better tolerate and even embrace the inevitable uncertainty of life.

We can do this by taking control of the things that are under our control and by challenging our need for certainty. We can learn to control our attitude and emotional response, to deal with our challenges and actively deal with our emotions and we can learn to accept change and be more resilient when life is tough.

When we are preoccupied by future worries, we can redirect our focus and shift from being overly anxious to acceptance. By appreciating and focusing on the present moment we can find our inner calm, ease stress and boost our mood overall. Remember that good nutrition, gentle exercise and enough sleep are key factors too. Plus, reaching out for help from a trusted friend or professional.
