Mental Break
As 2020, the stormiest, strangest year winds up, we’re looking forward to a break from work, a break from the alarm, a break from routine, a break from the traffic, a break from our suburban living, a break from the stress of life, a break from anything necessary to earn a buck and a break from catastrophe and confusion.
As Associate Professor Emma Thomas said an her article in Brave Minds (Edition 2, 2020 Finders University)
“The world has moved too quickly in 2020. Bushfires. Floods. Relief appeals. COVID-19. 5G conspiracy theories. Black lives matter. Anti-Lockdown protests. All these decisive moments have triggered surging social media interaction, and all demand clear answers as to why people react and respond.”
Why do we react and respond? Mainly due to STRESS and WORRY…
We are caught up in all of the uncertainty. We can’t control life but we want to feel safe. We take a stand, choose a view and pursue whatever helps us to express our reaction and resolve. Hopefully this enables us to respond maturely in order to find calm in the midst of the storm. To let go of some of the stress and worry and know that we are doing what we can to live life well and feel ok about it.
Maybe we just need to PUT THE GLASS DOWN to manage our stress…
The weight of a full glass of water doesn’t matter…It’s how long we hold it
For a minute…not a problem
For an hour…the arm will ache
For a day…numbness sets in…but we’ve never done that…have we?
The stresses and worries in life are like a glass of water. Think about them a little while and nothing happens. Think about them a bit longer and they hurt more. Think about them all daylong and we become incapable of doing anything.
Let STRESS go!
We have a few more days in 2020 to take stock and find ways to help ourselves to feel ok. Take a moment to focus on the blue sky, watch the birds flying around, spot a plane or take some time out to read a book, enjoy a cup of tea, call a friend or have some gentle exercise. Whatever enables us to let the stress and worry go, let’s do it and take a mental break!
Go gently this season.
